Many municipalities serviced by Penn Waste include yard waste collection as part of their service. Although this is the case for some municipalities, yard waste collection may not be a part of your current contract. Please be sure to check out your municipality’s page to see if yard waste is a part of your collection and the specific collection dates. Simply click this link and find your municipality in the list toward the bottom of the page.

If you do have yard waste collection, here are some tips to prepare your yard waste for collection:

  • Be sure to place your yard waste in biodegradable brown paper bags or bundle it with biodegradable twine in easy to handle bundles
    • Please DO NOT place your yard waste in plastic bags.
  • Once bundled or placed in a biodegradable paper bag, place your yard waste at the curb before your collection time.
  • An unlimited number of bags or bundles may be placed at the curb.

Depending on your municipality, some items may not be considered yard waste, such as grass clippings, fruits & vegetables, tree stumps and dirt & stones.

Some alternatives to disposing these types of yard waste are as follows:

  • Grasscycling or the recycling of grass by returning the clippings to the lawn
  • Composting or the creation of compost by decaying organic substances such as vegetation

In order to ensure that you are placing your permitted yard waste curbside, be sure to check your municipality’s page or contact Penn Waste.

  1. do you have the paper bags your talking about. and do you supply them. do we have to purchase is how much?

    • Great Question! Unfortunately we do not sell the paper bags referenced in the post here at Penn Waste. There are two options though. First, many municipalities have them for residents or will sell them. The other option is going to Lowe’s or Home Depot. They are sold at those stores. Thanks!

    • It may have been due to the limbs not fitting our yard waste guidelines. This is not the definitive reason behind this though. Please contact our customer service to resolve the issue at 717-767-4456. Thank you!

    • Great question! Old garden hoses are not acceptable recyclables. Please place old garden hoses with your in your trash bags or containers. Thank you!

  2. If I have a dozen or so small rocks (golf ball size or smaller) that I removed from my garden can they be thrown in the collection bin?

    • Thanks for checking! Here at Penn Waste, we exclusively use waste-to-energy facilities. As these items are not burnable, please do not place them in your collection bin. Our apologies for the inconvenience.
