Did you know that making new aluminum cans from used cans takes 95 percent less energy than using virgin materials? There are so many aluminum containers that you use on a daily basis that you may not realize are actually recyclable. So far this month, we have covered aluminum and steel products in your kitchen and bathroom, now we are going to cover the aluminum and steel products you may find in your cleaning closet. Keep reading for more details!

Many of the items that you may store in your cleaning closet can be recycled when they are empty. Similar to plastic and aluminum cans, aerosol cans may be recycled after they have been fully emptied. All of the items pictured here can be tossed in your recycle bin when you run out.IMG_20131014_100455_735

  • Window Cleaner
  • Surface Cleaner
  • Bathroom Cleaner
  • Toilet Bowl Cleaner
  • Disinfectant Spray
  • Static Guard
  • Air Freshener

All of these items and many more in your cleaning closet can be recyclable. Be sure that these items are completely empty before placing them in your recycle bin. To be sure these containers are empty, continue to spray any aerosol can until no substance comes out of the product. This will ensure that no contaminants make it into the recycle stream.

  1. I enjoy and appreciate the information Penn Waste provides to all of us about recycling.
I have more to recycle than I do to toss out in the land fills and incineration.
Thank you Penn Waste for keeping me up to date.

    • While we do not accept steel hangers through our curbside recycle program, we do encourage you to recycle them through other means. Reusing old steel hangers is one way to keep these items out of the waste stream. Another way to recycle steel hangers is to contact your local dry cleaner. Many dry cleaners will accept used steel hangers and recycle them for their purposes. -Penn Waste

  2. Thank you for all of the recycling tips. Since we have you as our recycling company, we can recycle so many more things. Thank you for helping our environment:)

    • Great question! The best way to dispose of paint is to use all of it painting or to store it until it is needed again. Other methods to dispose of it is to let it dry out and then place it in with your trash collection. -Penn Waste
