What does "single stream" mean?

Single stream means that instead of sorting your recyclables before you put them at the curb, you can put all of them into the same recycling bin, no sorting required.

I don't have a recycling bin. How can I recycle?

First, check with your municipality to see if you have recycling service, and if you can pick up a bin at your municipal office. If you have recycling service, you can use several containers for your recyclables. Some people use a trash can, a large plastic tub, or a laundry basket. If you are going to use a container other than your township's recycling bin, please label it "RECYCLING". Make your label large and easy to see.

The new guidelines say I can recycle shredded paper. How should I prepare it?

If you would like to recycle shredded paper, put it in a paper or plastic bag and place the bag in your recycling bin. Make sure it's tied or rolled shut so the shreds of paper don't fly around your neighborhood!

How should I dispose of needles and other sharps?

1. Put sharps in a puncture resistant container with a screw top, like a detergent bottle.

2. Wrap heavy duty tape around the top to secure the lid on the container.

3. Label the container "DO NOT RECYCLE"

4. Put the container in a bag with your regular trash.

Do Not:
Put sharps in glass containers or containers that may break or puncture
Flush sharps in the toilet
Label the container "Medical Waste"
Put the container in your recycling bin
